As the economy seems to consistently remain an issue for our country people are seriously concerned about our global future.  Around the country there seems to be a growing consensus that our performance in science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M) will determine our financial future.  According to a May CNN article, out of 65 developed nations American youth “rank 23rd in science and 31st in math.” Well below what many expect from a global leader.  Hip-hop artist Will-I-am, of the Black Eye Peas, appeared on N.P.R recently to discuss his efforts to bring awareness to the lack of attention given to these fields. After learning about an annual robotics competition called FIRST, held by Segway inventor Dean Kamen, he decided they should team up in celebration of the talents of youth who find interest in these fields.  As a result together they formed a T.V show called,  I Am First: Science and Rock and Roll, featuring performances by The Black Eyed Peas, and Willow Smith daughter of actors Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith.  The show airs this Sunday on ABC. Take a look at some of the links.

As exciting as these competitions are unless you actually attend one it is hard to really put into words the amount of work that these students put into these. I had the honor of attending one earlier this spring in Raleigh, NC. Check out some of the pics and videos.
