Using Gifts to Reach Goals

Many people argue about whether athletics have a place in education. For me… there’s never been any doubt. A good friend of mine told me he went through high school with no real plan to go any further. High school was it. College wasn’t on the radar. Then, he started running track. He was good. Very good! So good in fact that he was offered several scholarships to run. “Why not.” he figured. So he accepted a scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington becoming their premiere 100 and 200 meter sprinter. 4-years later he was a 7-time Division 1 Track and Field Conference Champion. More importantly, however…a college graduate. Since learning of his story whenever anyone tells me that athletics cannot assist or at least serve as a motivator to getting kids educated…I think of my friend. Mr. Xzavier Chisholm.
Yesterday he was inducted into the UNCW Athletic Hall of Fame. Check out the article.
